I’ve always said that you either love XII or you hate it. And if you do hate it, that’s perfectly fine. But please, let’s not all just bash it unintelligently. The Final Fantasy fandom has a tendency of continuously recycling the same complaints with more efficiency than an American presidential campaign.

Which essay would y'all prefer I write next?
- an essay examining the intersecting racism and sexism in Alan Wake: American Nightmare?
or
- a piece on the Silent Hill series as a whole, and the weaknesses which should be addressed in Silent Hill Downpour?
I’m going to write both eventually, I’m just having a hard time deciding which one to start. So I said, “Fuck it, just ask tumblr.”
Suggestions?

Half Life 3 Canceled

2 hours ago, the voice actor of Gordon Freeman was involved in a fatal car accident and perished before the perimedics arrived. Gabe Newell, stating it disrespectful to replace him, officially announced that HL3 will never come to be.
May he continue to exist in our hearts and minds, and may he also rest in peace.

This short piece by Alex Layne briefly recounts the Jennifer Hepler/BioWare situation and discusses how it fits into a larger pattern of misogyny and abuse of women within the gaming community.

…maybe twenty minutes further into Fallout 3, some teenaged bully is following me around, shouting, threatening—and trying, I think, to punch me in the teeth—and I just cannot shake the feeling that he thinks he is shouting at a guy. It’s as if his every pronoun has been shifted from “he” to “she,” carefully rerecorded for my personal edification, and yet it is glaringly obvious that the game’s...

I wish that this had been around when I was an undergraduate, because I would have been far more likely to have stuck to my original plan (get a dual major in mathematics and computer science with a minor in art; go on to a graduate program in game design of some sort) than what I actually did do.
This being the case, I’m here to spread the word. Check it, ladies.
